The Holy Face' of Metropolitan Alexii. Icon. The State Historical Museum

The icon was brought from Constantinople to Moscow by Metropolitan Alexii and placed in the Holy Face Monastery (Spaso-Andronikov Monastery) that he founded (c. 1355). The icon was repainted in the 19th c. but its iconography was maintained. Byzantine, 14th c. (?); Moscow, 17th (?)-19th c.
