Our Lady of Kirillo-Belozersk (from the Dormition Cathedral of the St. Cyril's Monastery in Belozersk) As tradition has it, St. Cyril brought this icon to Beloozero in 1397, and had it in his cell. He took it from Moscow to his new monastery, where the image was venerated as the miraculous Hodegitria of Kirillo-Belozersk. The icon was commemorated on June 8, the eve of St. Cyril's demise, and July 28, the feast of the Hodegitria of Smolensk.
The iconographic type of icon known in the Byzantine art as the Virgin Peribleptos (variant of the classical Hodegitria). About 1397, Moscow |
